{"id":36042,"date":"2023-10-07T09:51:35","date_gmt":"2023-10-07T08:51:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.themintmagazine.com\/?p=36042"},"modified":"2023-10-07T10:21:56","modified_gmt":"2023-10-07T09:21:56","slug":"out-of-the-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themintmagazine.com\/out-of-the-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of the way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what has happened since we published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themintmagazine.com\/issues\/issue-16-december-2020\/\">our last issue in December 2020<\/a> on the power of the patriarchy?\u00a0 For a start, we are out of the pandemic, these issues remain in the headlines and Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian journalist and activist, just got awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as the incredibly brave girls and women continue to fight misogyny in Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rereading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themintmagazine.com\/rein-in-men\/\">what I wrote then<\/a>, in economics much hasn\u2019t changed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>lack of women and people of colour doing economics with female academics facing sexual abuse;<\/li>\n<li>lack of representation of women and people of colour in economic analysis and data, with homo economicus genderless and colourless;<\/li>\n<li>lack of examination of institutions in economics \u2013 the formal and informal rules of the game, that so often disadvantage women and people of colour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even attempts to address <a href=\"https:\/\/19thnews.org\/2022\/10\/me-too-movement-economics-twitter-misconduct\/\">male academic sexual misconduct<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/19thnews.org\/2022\/10\/me-too-movement-economics-twitter-misconduct\/\">seem to have run into the ground since the professions&#8217;
